Beryllium Copper Alloy
Beryllium copper is a copper alloy with 0.5-3% beryllium. It is also known as copper beryllium, beryllium bronze and spring copper. The alloy has a combination of high-strength, non-magnetic and non-sparking properties. It is an age-hardening alloy which has the highest strength of any copper based alloy.
Beryllium Copper has excellent machining properties. It is also capable of forming in various shapes for different applications. It is effectively usable in many applications that involve hazardous environments. The alloy is resistant to non-oxidising acids, abrasive wear and galling, as well. Copper Beryllium has properties such as ductility, machinability and weldability. The alloy is capable of withstanding heat treatment, which gives it increased strength, electrical conductivity and durability. Beryllium copper products such as pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, cold chisels, knives and hammers are used in environments with explosive conditions. Compared to steel tools, beryllium tools are costlier, but provide outright usage in hazardous environments. Spring copper is used in cryogenic temperature applications, aerospace, bullet proof armour, electronic seal on doors, radio frequency leak resistor, and automotive industry, as well.
