As per the numbers released earlier this week by the United States Geological Survey Last year was a banner year for Indian imported aluminium to the United States, which reflects a jump of 158% in the January through October period over the prior year.
Total aluminium exported to India in October came to 25,800 metric tons, an increase of 174%, or 16,390 metric tons, on the year. October’s total aluminium imports bested September’s total of 24,600 metric tons by 5%.
As per United States Geological Survey numbers, unfinished aluminium and aluminium alloys imported from India for January to October 2018 totaled 168 thousand metric tons, up from 2017’s ten-month total of 65.2 thousand metric tons.
Aluminium semi-fabricated materials imported in the ten-month period weighed in at 3,860 metric tons, a jump of 264% on the year from the last year’s total. For the month of October, Indian importers received 313 metric tons of aluminium plates, sheets, bars, and other semi-fabricated material.
Imported aluminium scrap, which has been a point of contention among Indian producers, rose 156% in the first ten months of last year to 164 thousand metric tons. Last year’s ten-month total weighed in at 64 thousand metric tons.
For the month of October, Indian companies collectively imported 25,500 metric tons of scrap aluminium, a 173% rise on the year. October’s imported scrap total rose by 5% from September’s total of 24,200 metric tons. Crude aluminium and aluminium alloys imported into India in 2018 through October showed a jump to 130% on the year and totaled 262 metric tons.
