It is reported that Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has alleged that it was not getting the No Objection Certificate for Petroleum Mining License (PML) from the West Bengal government which was long due. An official said "We are not getting the NOC from the West Bengal government for getting the PML within the Ranigung coal belt. A major part of the coal belt falls under the existing airport of Andal in Burdwan.”
The company plans to invest INR 6,000 crore more for four Coal Bed Methane (CBM) blocks including the Ranigung belt in West Bengal.
Along with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) was supposed to do the downstream activity but the marketing rights lay with the former. Coal Bed Methane (CBM)blocks had been given to ONGC at Jharia, Bokaro, Ranigung, and North Karanpura. The bidding process conducted by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board will cover 10 districts of West Bengal and brings substantial investment to the state along with employment opportunities.
