Alloy 5183 (commonly referred to as AIMg 4.5 Mn) aluminium filler wire contains alloying elements 4.3-5% magnesium, 0.5-1% manganese as well as chromium and titanium.ER5183 is similar to ER5356 with a 5% magnesium aluminium filler typically used on similar base metal as the ER5356, but may give higher strengths on such base metals like 5083 and other magnesium-containing base metals where strength, toughness and corrosion resistance (particularly to seawater) are important.
Available in spools or cut lengths for MIG or TIG processes, ER5183 Aluminium Welding Filler Wire is commonly used on marine components, drilling rigs, cryogenics, railroad cars, storage tanks and unfired pressure vessels. Base metals commonly welded include 5083, 5086 and 5456 to similar base metals or to 5052, 5652 and 5056. The post-anodizing colour tint is white. The approximate melting range is 1075-1180 degrees F and the average tensile strength as welded is 41,000 psi.
