The alloy has high chromium and nickel content which increase its corrosion resistance. The electrode retains high strength even in temperatures of up to 10000 C. The filler metal is hardenable through cold working or heat treatment in temperatures around 9500 C. temperature should be kept low when welding to avoid the formation of intermetallic compounds. The electrode has excellent weldability because it allows welding from all positions. The filler metal can withstand acid and chloride ion bearing environments within a considerable range of temperatures. The alloy is more enhanced in corrosion resistance compared to grades 317L and 316L.
Properties of duplex stainless steel UNS S31803 electrodes
Mechanical- The tensile strength of the alloy is 650MPa while the yield strength is around 400MPa. The elongation capacity of the filler metal is around 35% in 50mm.
Chemical- The elements found in this rod include carbon, chromium, nitrogen, nickel, molybdenum, sulfur, phosphorus, manganese, silicon, and iron. High Cr and Ni components enhance corrosion resistance.
