The electrode is used for welding similar grades of metal. The alloy has a strong resistance to most acids like hydrochloric, acetic, sulfuric, and hydrofluoric. The filler metal can withstand high temperatures without effect on the strength. The alloy is resistant to stress cracking corrosion. The ductility of the Hastelloy B3 electrodes is also excellent but it is reduced by temperatures above 5000 C. The rod is an improved version of B2, and it should solve the problems encountered when using B2. The electrode allows welding from any position. It has excellent formability and weldability characteristics. The filler metal has low carbon content.
Properties of Hastelloy B3 electrodes
Mechanical- The tensile strength of the alloy is 760MPa while the yield strength is around 325MPa. The elongation capacity of Hastelloy B3 electrode is 25% in 50mm.
Chemical- The elements found in the alloy include carbon, silicon, chromium, nickel, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, copper, and cobalt. The carbon content is low. Nickel improves the corrosion resistance of the electrode.
