304N

The electrode has better corrosion resistance than stainless steel 302. The material does not respond to heat treatment but requires cold work. It is non-magnetic but gains mild magnetism after cold working. The rod has high ductility and has excellent formability and fabricability. The alloy is highly resistance to intergranular corrosion and carbide precipitation due to its low carbon composition. The grade has a higher nitrogen composition than 304 which leads to a higher strength. The material is used in the fabrication of joints between stainless steel of the same chemical composition. The alloy is usable in cryogenic environments.

Properties of stainless steel 304N electrodes

Mechanical- The alloy has a tensile strength of 650MPa while the yield strength is 330MPa. The elongation capacity of the filler metal is 40% in 50mm. It has a density of 8.0g/cm3.

Chemical- The following elements are found in stainless steel 304N electrodes: carbon, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, nitrogen, sulfur, silicon, phosphorus, manganese, and iron. The alloy has high nitrogen and low carbon composition for high strength and resistance to carbide precipitation.
