The electrode is highly resistant to corrosion with enhancement from copper and molybdenum. It contains niobium which acts as the stabilizer. The alloy is austenitic in structure. Operations are limited to 5500 C because the filler metal is prone to loss of ductility. The filler metal works perfectly in environments containing acids or chloride ions. It can withstand stress cracking corrosion. The alloy is treatable through heating or cold working. The temperatures should be maintained within the range of 10000 C during the process. The electrode is suitable for welding both similar and dissimilar grades of steel. It is used in the fabrication of alloy 20, C276, and 316 stainless steel.
Properties of alloy 20 electrodes
Mechanical- The alloy has a tensile strength of 550MPa while the yield strength is around 210MPa. The elongation capacity of the filler metal is 30% in 50mm.
Chemical- The components of alloy 20 electrode include carbon, nickel, copper, silicon, manganese,
