This is a high alloy electrode that is used in the fabrication of stainless steel with similar chemical composition. The rod is ideal for highly corrosive environments. The filler metal has low carbon content, and it is non-stabilized. It contains copper that helps the rod to withstand strong acids like sulfuric. The alloy is non-magnetic and offers excellent formidability, toughness, and weldability. The filler metal prevents cracking and fissuring in weld parts. The wire does not require preheating. It is important to keep the temperatures low when using 904L electrodes. The filler wire requires re-baking at 3000 C for 2 hours. It is used for welding grades 34L and 734L base metals.
Application of stainless steel 904L
Mechanical- The alloy has a tensile strength of around 550MPa while the yield strength is 350MPa. The elongation capacity of the grade is 35% in 50mm.
Chemical- The electrode contains carbon, chromium, nickel, copper, molybdenum, sulfur, phosphorus, mangane
